Etymology
Maghreb comes from the Arabic word Maghrib, which means 'the place of sunset' or simply 'the west', so it was used for the lands to the west of the Arab world. That's why Maghreb now means the northwest region of Africa, including Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia.
