Etymology

Kazakstan comes from the name Kazakh (a word often linked to 'free' or 'wanderer') and the ending -stan, which means 'land', the same -stan as in Pakistan. So Kazakstan simply means 'land of the Kazakh people' and is a variant spelling of Kazakhstan.
