Etymology
Kazakhstan comes from Kazakh, a word for a 'free' or 'wandering' person, and the Persian -stan, which means 'land' (the same ending in Pakistan and Afghanistan). So Kazakhstan means 'land of the Kazakhs' or roughly 'land of the free people', which is why it is the name of that large country in Central Asia.
