Etymology

IVP is short for intravenous pyelogram. Intravenous means 'into a vein' and pyelogram is a 'picture' of the kidney 'pelvis', like a diagram, so an IVP is a scan made after a dye goes into a vein to show the kidneys and urinary tract.
