Morphology

Hutterite = Hutter (semi-transparent) = Hutter + ite

The word is built from the surname Hutter plus the relational suffix -ite, but the proper-name base is not informative for most learners.

Etymology

Hutterite is the name given to a follower of Jakob Hutter, with the ending -ite meaning 'follower' or 'member', just like in Israelite or Luddite. That's why a Hutterite is a person who belongs to that communal group and shares property and daily life with others.
