Etymology

Erythronium comes from Greek parts erythro- 'red' and -onion 'onion' or 'bulb'. It names a small plant with a bulb, so thinking of a 'red onion' gives an easy image to remember that Erythronium is a bulbous flower, even though not all kinds are bright red.
