Morphology
Etymology
Telemetry comes from the Greek parts tele- meaning 'far' and -metry from metron meaning 'measure', the same tele- in telephone and the same idea as the meter in thermometer. So telemetry means 'measuring from far away', which is why it describes sending measurements from remote places.
