Etymology
Sunstone is made of two plain parts, sun ('the bright star in the sky') and stone ('rock'), because this gem has tiny, glittering flakes that make it look like bits of the sun are trapped inside the rock. One popular story says sailors used a 'sunstone' to find the sun on cloudy days, which helps you remember that the word is all about light and shine.
