Etymology
The word springiness comes from spring and the ending -iness, and spring originally means 'to jump' and is also the name of a metal coil that 'springs' back when you press it. So, springiness is the quality of being able to 'spring back' into shape, which is why we use it for elastic floors, rubber bands, and bouncy mattresses.
