Morphology
spirometry = spiro + metry
The element 'spiro-' (breath) is a bound combining form not known to most learners, and '-metry' (measurement) is technical, so the meaning is not transparently derivable by an average B1 learner.
Etymology
Spirometry comes from the Latin spirare meaning 'to breathe', as in inspire, and the Greek part -metry meaning 'measure'. So spirometry is the 'measurement of breathing', which explains why it refers to the test doctors use to check lung function.
