Etymology
Polypus comes from the Greek parts poly- 'many' and -pous 'foot' and first named a many-footed sea creature like an octopus. Doctors later used the name for small growths that looked a little like a many-footed creature, so today a polypus means a small abnormal growth on the lining of the body.
