The step from 'photograph' to 'photography' is fairly recognizable, but the word uses classical morphology and names a specialized art or practice.
Etymology
The word photography comes from Greek parts photo meaning 'light' and -graphy meaning 'writing' or 'drawing', the same root as autograph. So photography is like 'writing with light', which explains why it means making pictures by using light.
