Surface Forms
Morphology
permaculture = culture (semi-transparent) = perma + culture
Formed by blending 'permanent' (seen as 'perma-') with 'culture' to mean a sustained, sustainable approach to cultivation; the clipped combining form and specialized technical meaning make the relation not fully transparent for average learners.
Etymology
Permaculture comes from the words permanent ('lasting') and agriculture ('farming'), and people later also used culture ('a way of life'). So permaculture means designing farms, gardens, and communities to last by working with nature.
