Etymology
Neurosurgery comes from the Greek part neuro- meaning 'nerve' and the familiar word surgery meaning an operation or 'hand work'. So neurosurgery is literally 'working on the nerves', which is why it is the kind of surgery that treats the brain, spinal cord, and other nerves.
