Nanorobot starts with nano-, the same root as in nanometer and from a Greek word meaning 'dwarf' or 'very small', and ends with robot, from a Czech word meaning 'forced work' that became the name for a machine that does jobs. So a nanorobot is like a 'tiny worker', which explains why it means a microscopic machine that can do very precise tasks.
