The base 'fibrosis' and the combining form 'myelo-' are both technical medical elements; the combined meaning (scarring of bone marrow) is specialized and not derivable by average learners.
Etymology
Myelofibrosis comes from parts meaning 'marrow' (myelo-) and 'fiber' (fibrosis). So it describes the bone marrow being replaced by scar-like fibers, which is why the marrow cannot make normal blood cells.
