Morphology
The components are partly compositional: 'lever' evokes a rigid, bar-like object and 'hang' denotes a gymnastic suspended position, so a learner could infer a hang in which the body is held rigidly like a lever (i.e. horizontal). However, the precise posture (stationary, horizontal, performed on rings) and its technical nature are specialized and not fully predictable for a B1 learner without prior exposure, so the relation is only partly transparent.
Etymology
Lever hang is a gymnastic move that gets its name from the word lever and the word hang: the gymnast hangs from the rings and holds the body straight and horizontal like a long bar. That's why it means 'hold the body horizontal and still', a position that builds strength.
