Morphology

Etymology

Hemolytic comes from Greek parts hemo- meaning 'blood', as in hemoglobin, and -lysis meaning 'breaking'. So something hemolytic literally 'breaks' blood cells, which is why it means it causes red blood cells to be destroyed.
