Etymology
Esophagoscopy breaks into the Greek parts esophago- meaning 'the tube from the mouth to the stomach' and -scopy meaning 'to look', the same idea as the scope in 'telescope' or 'microscope'. So, esophagoscopy literally means 'to look into the esophagus', which fits the medical procedure that uses a small camera to check that tube.
