Etymology
Cuckoldom comes from cuckold plus the ending -dom, like in kingdom, where -dom means 'state'. The old word cuckold comes from the bird cuckoo, because cuckoos lay eggs in other birds' nests, so a man whose wife is unfaithful was compared to a nest with another bird's eggs, and cuckoldom is the 'state' of being a cuckold.
