The word closed-circuit combines closed ('shut' or 'complete') and circuit, which comes from an old word for 'circle' and is like the everyday word circle. So a closed-circuit is a complete loop where electricity or signals travel around and stay inside the system, which is why closed-circuit cameras keep their pictures within one system.
