Surface Forms

cardiograph singular
cardiographs plural

Morphology

cardiograph = cardio + graph

The word is a technical formation from the combining forms cardio- and -graph, but these bound morphemes are not readily available to an average B1 learner.

Etymology

The word cardiograph joins cardio- 'heart' and -graph 'to write' or 'record', the same cardio you hear in 'cardio' exercise and the same -graph in autograph and photograph. So a cardiograph is a machine that 'writes' or records what the heart does.
