Etymology
Bronchitis comes from Greek parts: bronch- meaning 'windpipe' and -itis meaning 'swelling'. You can see the same -itis in arthritis, which means 'joint swelling'. So bronchitis means swelling of the air tubes to the lungs, which is why it causes coughing and trouble breathing.
