Etymology
The word Zenaidura comes from the personal name Zenaida, a woman from the Bonaparte family after whom scientists in the 1800s named a group of 'doves', including the 'mourning dove', so the name refers to a bird genus. Today those birds are usually placed in the genus Zenaida, which is why Zenaidura is now used less often.
