Etymology

The word Qabbalah comes from a Hebrew word that means 'received' and from the root q-b-l meaning 'to receive', just like the English word 'receive'. It was used for teachings passed down as a special 'received' tradition, which is why Qabbalah refers to the mystical, hidden teachings people study.
