Etymology
Post-It is a brand name from the company 3M that combines post (to 'put' or 'stick') and it ('this small note'). So a Post-It is a small, sticky piece of paper you 'post' on papers, walls, or a computer screen and can take off again. Over time the brand name became the common name for any small sticky note.
