Northumbria = north + Humber (semi-transparent) = north + umbria

The 'north' element is transparent, but the second element reflects the river Humber (historically altered to '-umbria') which is not obvious to most learners.

Etymology

The word Northumbria comes from Old English parts north and Humber and means 'north of the Humber'. So Northumbria was the land and people living north of the Humber river, which is why it names that old kingdom in northern England.
