Etymology
Nd is the chemical symbol for the element neodymium. The name neodymium comes from Greek parts neo- 'new' and didymos 'twin', because chemists found it as a 'new twin' to another element in the same mineral. So Nd refers to that rare earth metal, which today is often used in strong magnets and special alloys.
