Etymology
MEK is the short name for the Persian group Mojahedin-e Khalq, which literally means 'people who struggle' or 'fighters of the people', with Mojahedin meaning 'one who struggles' and Khalq meaning 'people'. That's why the group is named for its political fight against the Iranian government.
