Etymology

LPM stands for Licensed Professional Midwife. A helpful way to remember midwife is to see it as mid + wife, meaning 'with' and 'woman', so a midwife is a person 'with the woman' during birth and an LPM is a trained, legally allowed midwife who helps mothers and babies.
