Etymology
Judaea comes from the Hebrew name Yehudah, also seen as English Judah, which means 'praised' and was the name of one of Jacob's sons and the kingdom he gave his name to. So Judaea literally means 'land of Judah', which is why it names the southern region of ancient Palestine.
