Etymology
Hippocratic comes from the name of the ancient Greek doctor Hippocrates, who set early rules for medicine and gave his name to the famous Hippocratic Oath. His name starts with hippo-, which means 'horse', as in the word 'hippopotamus', and today Hippocratic means 'connected to Hippocrates or his ideas about medicine'.
