Morphology
Hamamelidanthum = hamamelid (opaque) = hamamelid + anthum
Although the name is built from a scientific plant stem plus a flower-forming element, the resulting genus name is not inferable for most learners from the parts alone.
Etymology
Hamamelidanthum joins Hamamelis (the witch hazel) and -anthum meaning 'flower'. So it literally says 'a plant with witch-hazel flowers', which helps explain why this name was given to a group of fossil plants found long ago in the Baltic region during the Oligocene period.
