Delphi is the name of the famous ancient Greek site with the oracle. Its name may come from an old Greek root delph- meaning 'womb', which helps you remember that people saw Delphi as the sacred 'navel' or centre of the world, and one popular story also links the name to delphin- 'dolphin' because of a myth about Apollo arriving by sea.
