Etymology
Cannabis comes from an old Central Asian word for a plant used to make very strong fiber, and it is the same root that gave us canvas, which was once made from hemp. So, Cannabis today is the name for the plants (hemp and marijuana) known for their strong fibers and for their use as a drug.
