Etymology

Bemisia is a scientific name for a group of small whiteflies and was formed from a person's name as a way to honour that researcher. The ending -ia is often added in science to mean 'belonging to' or 'related to', so Bemisia names the whole group of tiny crop pests and remembers the person linked to their discovery.
