Morphology
unprepossessing = prepossessing (semi-transparent) = un + prepossess + ing
The negating prefix 'un-' is productive, but the adjective 'prepossessing' is relatively rare and not obviously analyzable as 'pre-' + 'possessing' for many learners.
Etymology
Unprepossessing comes from un- ('not') plus pre- ('before') and possessing (from possess, 'to hold'), so it describes something that does not 'take hold' of a good feeling before you meet it. That's why unprepossessing means giving a weak or plain 'first impression' and seeming not very attractive at first.
