Morphology

uninscribed = inscribed (semi-transparent) = un + inscribe + ed

Morphologically the word is the negation of 'inscribed', but the geometric sense of 'inscribed' is specialized, so learners without geometry knowledge may not readily derive the meaning.

Etymology

Uninscribed comes from un- 'not' and inscribed, where in- means 'in' and scribe means 'write'; inscribed can mean 'written or drawn inside'. So in geometry uninscribed means a shape is 'not drawn inside' another shape and does not touch its boundary.
