Morphology

unbridled = bridle (semi-transparent) = un + bridle

While the prefix 'un-' clearly negates 'bridle', the metaphorical extension to 'unrestrained' is not immediately obvious.

Etymology

The word unbridled is made from un- ('not') and bridle ('a strap that controls a horse'). So unbridled means like a horse without a bridle, wild and not controlled, which is why we use it for feelings or actions with no limits.
