Etymology
Transcortical has two parts: trans- meaning 'across' (as in transport) and cortical from cortex, meaning 'outer layer' of an organ like the brain. So, transcortical describes something that goes 'across the outer layer', for example a path a surgeon uses through the brain's surface.
