Etymology

Tragopan comes from an old Greek name for a mythical bird, from the words tragos 'goat' and Pan 'a horned god', which gives the strong image of a horned bird. So today's tragopan is a brightly colored Asian pheasant known for its colorful throat skin and two small horn-like parts on its head.
