Formed by the chemical naming pattern 'element name' + '-ide', which is regular in chemistry but requires knowledge of the element name and the chemical suffix and so may not be obvious to a general B1 learner.
Etymology
The word telluride comes from tellur meaning 'earth' and the chemistry ending -ide. So a telluride is a compound where tellurium, the 'earth' element, combines with another element.
