Etymology

Swadeshi comes from the Hindi and Sanskrit word swadesh, from swa 'self' and desh 'country', and was used in India for a campaign to buy local goods and refuse foreign ones. So the swadeshi movement meant acting for 'our own country' to strengthen the nation.
