Morphology

The word transparently means 'in the direction of the sun' or 'on the sun-facing side' from the noun 'sun' plus the directional suffix '-wise'.

Etymology

Sunwise is made of sun and wise, where wise means 'in the way of', just like in clockwise. So sunwise can describe something put to 'face' the sun or on the sunny side to catch the light.
