Morphology

stylet = styl + et

Although the form looks like a diminutive (styl + -et), the word is a borrowed diminutive and not transparently analyzable by average learners from a familiar English base like 'style'.

Etymology

Stylet comes from the Latin word stilus, which meant a 'pointed stick' or 'writing tool', and it is the same root as stylus, a small pointed tool you might imagine as a tiny sharp pen. So a stylet is a small, thin, pointed instrument used for piercing.
