Morphology
spongioblastoma = spongioblast (opaque) = spongio + blast + oma
Formed from specialized medical combining forms ('spongio-' and 'blast') plus the medical suffix '-oma' meaning 'tumor', which is not transparent to an average B1 learner.
Etymology
Spongioblastoma breaks into three parts: spongio- meaning 'sponge', -blast meaning 'young cell' like a 'bud', and -oma meaning 'tumor'. So a spongioblastoma is a tumor of sponge-like young cells that grows quickly and is therefore very serious.
