Etymology

In computing, slurp is a playful use of the same idea: like drinking fast, a program 'slurps' data from files or the internet. A helpful way to remember is to imagine the computer 'sucking up' many records quickly, which is why slurp means 'to read or take a large amount of data quickly'.
