Etymology

Sincere comes from the Latin word sincerus, which meant 'clean' or 'pure'. A helpful story to remember it says it comes from sine cera meaning 'without wax' — a statue 'without wax' did not hide cracks — so sincere now means 'genuine' and 'honest'.
