Etymology
Sierra comes from the Spanish word sierra, which means 'saw' and comes from the old Latin word serra meaning 'saw'. People called jagged mountain lines 'sierra' because the peaks look like the teeth of a saw, so a sierra is a saw-like range of mountains.
