Etymology
Secretaryship comes from secretary, which comes from the root secret meaning 'private' or 'hidden', because a secretary originally looked after private papers and information. The ending -ship means 'state or office', as in leadership and friendship, so secretaryship is the 'office or time of being a secretary'.
